dc.description.abstract | During May 1970, series of oceanographic observations were made in the Strait of Sicily in support of MILOCMED. Sections of hydrologic stations were made using temperature salinity recorder (TDS) and Nansen bottles by R/ V MARIA PAOLINA G. (NATO), BANNOCK (Italy), and ORIGNY (France). Some of the sections were repeated several days later in order to examine the spatial and temporal variability through the narrow part of the Strait. Current observations were also made using five moored buoys placed between Cap Bon (Tunisia) and Punta Stagnone (Sicily). Most of the hydrologic stations had been already reported by Dr D. Shonting [Ref . 3J . A description of hydrologic characteristics of the water in a quite large area around the Strait has been made by Dr A. Morel [Ref . 2J . My intention here is to discuss the first r esults of the current measurements collected during the MILOC cruise in May 1970. | |
