Shallow water environments create complex scattering condit~ons due to the sea surface and bottom scattering mechanisms. An analysis of the effects of the scattering mechan~smso n sonar images of simple targets in shallow water scenarios will be presented and will include a examination of both incoherent and coherent scattering. The analysis will use an incoherent model for the simulation of sidescan sonar images, as well as two dimensional coherent ray propagation and isovelocity models
