The four pieces of equipment described in this report have been designed to facilitate the handling of oceanographic cables by replacing the heavy, and often expensive, equipment at present in use, with lighter, less expensive units. They consist of (a) a miniature slip ring installation for multi-conductor cables that considerably improves the signal-to-noise ratio; (b) a light and sturdy pulley that swings freely with the movement of the cable, thereby reducing chafing and breaking; and (c) two compact swivels, one being for use with electric cables.
