EVA - an evaluator of vague evidence in ASW situations: an expert system prototype
Abstract
This paper presents an example of how an expert system can contribute to the creation and updating of an ASW tactical picture to meet the needs of a high-level shore commander. The basic assumptions are a large area of interest and a considerable number of targets in combination with a rather low number of data per individual target and an associated low data rate, resulting ultimately in fuzzy target evaluation and target tracking. The inputs to the expert system model are facts and existence (which may be uncertain, imprecise, or even mutually inconsistent); outputs are appropriate conclusions.
