The topic that is dealt with in this paper is a method for c omputation of acoustic transmission loss by sound propagation in the ocean. The method i s based on the ray theory which is used in connection with an acoustic model of the ocean, the parameters of which are approximated by mathematical expressions. On this basis formulae for ray path coordinates and intensity are developed. Some computer programs have been written to carry out the numerical calculations. Results of this mathematical method are compared with practical measurements.
