dc.description.abstractA systematic approach to underwater observation of high-resolution seabed features has been developed. These include: morphology caused by current, wave, and biological factors and certain engineering geological factors such as compaction (penetration) and shear-strength character. Particular attention is paid to recording any seabed element that would constitute a discrete acoustic reflector and areas of strong acoustic scattering, such as would be characteristic for seagrass meadows. An underwater recording tablet is proposed and its use described. The information is recorded in such a way that it is amenable for encorporation into spreadsheets and relational databases that can be linked to digital maps.
